Housing association challenges violence behind closed doors

A social landlord has taken its fight to evict a tenant with a history of domestic violence to the Court of Appeal. MHT London has successfully appealed against an earlier ruling in Croydon County Court that it could not evict Mr Hadjazi because he had not been living in the family home when his violent behaviour caused his wife and children to flee.

Metropolitan Housing Partnership gets gold for being green

Metropolitan Housing Partnership (MHP) is celebrating achieving a Gold rating from the Mayor’s office. The Green500 carbon management scheme, run by the Greater London Authority, awarded MHP the gold rating for its contribution to sustainability and carbon management.

Metropolitan Housing Trust London gets green thumbs up from Mayor’s office

Metropolitan Housing Trust London (MHT London) has been praised by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson for being the first housing association to join his Capital Growth initiative. MHT London were acknowledged for their contribution to the scheme at a launch event that took place on Tuesday 29th June at the Mayor’s office. The Capital Growth scheme aims to provide an alternative to allotments, boost the amount of locally grown food and improve access to low cost, nutritious food in urban areas.

Zero tolerance to all hate related incidents

Metropolitan Housing Trust London receive Royal Institute of British Architects Awards award for South London development

Metropolitan Housing Trust London (MHT London) is celebrating winning The Royal Institute of British Architects Awards (RIBA) 2010 London Award for its development Bateman Mews in Clapham, South London.

A partnership between MHT London (part of Metropolitan Housing Partnership), London Borough of Lambeth and architects Anne Thorne Architects, the scheme is made up of five large and affordable family homes which have been built on what used to be a neglected car park. The south London scheme was given the award for its architectural standards and contribution to the local community; it cost £900,000 and was constructed between June 2008 – June 2009.

Residents help in fight against debt

Residents from across London have celebrated their graduation as trained Money Advisers – in a new initiative designed to help communities tackle indebtedness.

More than 20 residents underwent training as part of a partnership of three housing associations to address high levels of indebtedness and financial exclusion within communities. The ceremony took place on Wednesday 9 June at the National Housing Federation office in Central London, and was chaired by Bernie Morgan, Chief Executive of Community Development Finance Association (cdfa). The residents received their certificates from DWP Strategic financial inclusion champion Yasin Ahmed

MHT London named winner of the 24housing Retrofit Best Practice Award 2010

Ashmole residents to receive £50m investment as a result of transfer

On Monday 22 March residents of the South London Ashmole estate became residents of Metropolitan Housing Trust London (MHT London). As a result of the transfer the estate will receive £50.3m worth of investment over 30 years and residents will see a reduction in their weekly rent.
