Aids and adaptations
We want all of our residents to enjoy the comfort of their own home and maintain as much independence as possible.
If you or a member of your family is finding it difficult to get into your home or move about freely inside we may be able to offer help. Aids and adaptations help elderly and disable tenants remain independent in their home and include grab rails, wheelchair ramps, level-access showers and stair lifts.
We will ask for confirmation of the adaptation needs from an Occupational Therapist or recognised specialist in the condition for which the aid and adaptation is requested, e.g. a doctor.
The local Aids & Adaptations team will be happy to answer any eligibility queries that you might have.
Disabled Facilities Grant
If the value of the aid and/or adaptation required is above £1000 in value we will help you to apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant from your Local Authority (there may be a waiting list). The maximum grant available is £30,000 which is means tested and based on your income and savings. If your application is unsuccessful we will work with you to find another solution.

Home improvement agencies
If you are a homeowner or tenant of a private landlord, Home Improvement Agencies (sometimes known as 'Care and Repair' or 'Staying Put' agencies) will advise you on how to adapt, repair, improve and maintain your home.
This includes a review of the housing options open to you, including whether you are entitled to any help, welfare benefits, technical matters and other support services that you may need to help you stay in your own home.

It is vital for your safety that we check your gas boiler and heating once every year. If we, or our contractors, get in touch please make every effort to make an appointment to allow them to carry out this important task.
